Watery Burger
According to the United States Geological Society Georgia Water Science Center (http://ga2.er.usgs.gov/edu/edu-activity-watercontent.cfm), how much water is required to produce one hamburger? This refers to all the water used for all purposes during production, including irrigation of the wheat, irrigation of the corn fed to the cows, watering the cows, etc.

Answer: Between 4,000 and 18,000 gallons.

Explanation: The bathtub in my house holds 72 gallons of water if filled to the brimmy top. This calculates to between 55 and 250 bathtubfuls of water to produce one hamburger! This refers to a nice, meaty 1/3 pound sandwich, not the small fast-food variety, but I still think most people will agree with me that it is an astounding amount of resource usage.
