Finding Her Way Back

An explorer left her camp and travelled one mile south, one mile east and one mile north to arrive back at camp. She did NOT start from the North Pole! Where did she start from?

(And hopefully it doesn't need be said, but she obviously did not start from the South Pole, since it is not possible to travel south from the South Pole.)
